To go along with our study around growth mindset, students had the opportunity to see how these skills helped many of the amazing athletes compete in the most recent Winter Olympics held in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. Many of the students got into the Olympic spirit and shared stories of watching events with their families at home. We met as a class each morning to look at the current medal count and to discuss some of the highlights from the day before. We shared stories of failure, courage, perseverance and success. One of the favourite stories that came up in discussion was the story of Canadian snowboarder, Mark Mcmorris. Students were amazed that less than a year before the Olympics, Mcmorris almost died in a snowboarding accident. They were even more amazed when he won the bronze medal for Canada!
There's something special about the Olympics, where countries from around the world forget about differences and come together to spread the message of Olympic Peace, and to help build a better world through sport.
